"Steve Lopez" is the author of The Soloist: A Lost Dream, an Unlikely Friendship and the Redemptive Power of Music. Mr. Lopez will discuss his experiences with Nathaniel Anthony Ayers, a gifted musician struggling with homelessness on the streets of Los Angeles. "The Soloist" a moving work born from more than four years of Lopez's newspaper columns, is now a feature film starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jamie Foxx.

United Way of King County and Seattle Arts & Lectures present:

This slideshow should update as our best work is chosen in the group. Our group takes the time to raise awareness on homelessness while also bring to light organizations and the volunteers and people who are truly making a difference. FareStart and Kitchens with a Mission are my two core organizations that I knew about from here in Seattle, having volunteered since 1999.

This month we had an artist join us from "Do 1 Thing" a group that has been receiving respectable coverage in the media like People Magazine and WAMC Northeast Public Radio says, “There are so many problems today, it’s hard to know where to start. Even the Obama Administration is taking the kitchen sink approach – throw it all in there and see how far we can get. But the president has also called on Americans to get involved…a renewed call to roll up our sleeves and help clean this up. A group of award winning photojournalists are doing just that – picking one issue – the growing number of homeless teenagers – and doing what they can.”

Do 1 Thing is the vision in action of Show Me a Sign. Please take a moment to learn more about what they do, and be inspired.

as always,
blessings and inspirations,

Glad to be in this group, I work with a lot of families (with young children) who are in various stages/types of homelessness and am looking forward to seeing what I can learn in this format that might help me help them.

The United Way of Snohomish County has launched a new Web site with resources for people coping with a job loss. helpforhardtimes.org offers suggestions for surviving unemployment and lists local resources, including those at Edmonds Community College, that are ready to help.
