Edmonds Community College’s art gallery features work by its own alumna and visual arts instructor Audineh Asaf this fall. Her exhibit “Embodied Motifs” opens the first day of fall quarter Sept. 24 and shows through Dec. 14 in the college art gallery, third floor Lynnwood Hall, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood.
The exhibit features black and white photography exploring the artist's identity as an Iranian American and the representation of the female body in both cultures. It includes a wall-size mural.
"My work promotes the liberation of social values and ideals through reclamation of the body and self expression," Asaf said.
Asaf is an interdisciplinary artist whose work includes printmaking, collage, and photography. She earned her Associate of Arts at Edmonds Community College in 2006 and bachelor's degree at the University of Washington in 2007.
"Embodied Motifs" is her Master of Fine Arts culminating project for Goddard College. She teaches part-time for Edmonds Community College Visual Arts.
A reception with the artist will be 4:30-6:30 p.m., Fri., Oct. 19 in the college art gallery.
The gallery is open 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday, and 1-5 p.m., weekends.
