Romeo Dallaire’s documentary was interesting. It helped me better understand humanity as well as the Rwandan genocide itself. Dallaire feels like going back to Rwanda is like going to Hell. In 1994, he went on a U.N. peacekeeping mission in Rwanda...

Romeo Dallaire’s documentary was interesting. It helped me better understand humanity as well as the Rwandan genocide itself. Dallaire feels like going back to Rwanda is like going to Hell. In 1994, he went on a U.N. peacekeeping mission in Rwanda as a Canadian commander of a multitude of troops from Canada. It is my belief that Dallaire still suffers from PTSD from the events he experienced in Rwanda. It took him seven years after the genocide to wait to write his documentary and it took him 3… Continue

I'm writing my research paper about France's involvement in the Rwandan genocide. It's interesting to see how much the world has become indifferent to Genocide.Perhaps one of the vilest acts of brutality imaginable. To be honest, I still have much to learn about the Rwandan genocide, it’s origins, the people involved in it, and else forth. The research process is going smoothly though. I still have much to learn about the complicity and inaction of nations during the time of the Rwandan genocide… Continue

English 205A:The Path to Genocide (5)

Having read Philip Gourevitch’s book and watched Ghosts of Rwanda I’m now convinced that little was done to stop the progression of the steps of genocide in Rwanda. However, Ghosts of Rwanda reminds me of those who at least tried to save some lives in that country. If memory serves me correct, what I’ve learned is that there were U.N. troops who resisted the call to retreat from Rwanda. There were also members of the Red Cross who chose to risk their lives in saving people from the horrifying th… Continue

English 205A: The Path to Genocide (4)

I'm amazed with how simple Genocide Watch explains world situations and conflicts. However, what strikes me most is that there were Hindus being rewarded for killing Christians and for destroying their homes. After reading some of the articles about Christianity in India, I am convinced that this countries' people is struggling with freedom of religion. I'm also convinced that, although not the source of all problems, and not necessarily bad, religion has a part in the origin of genocides/mass k… Continue

English 205A: The Path to Genocide (3)

Philip Gourevitch's writing is stellar. As a journalist, he seems to accurately portray the events of Rwanda based on his observations and personal experiences in that country. Although he writes copious amounts of information and history, he seems to give most of his readers a hard time putting down his book, "We wish to inform you that tomorrow we will be killed with our families". The stories from Rwanda show that evil people in this world succeed in what they do when the masses sit back and… Continue

Hey there, Luke. I didn't recognize your picture at first!

The L.E.A.F. school experience sounds like it was amazing. You'll have to tell me more in person!
