You can find more photos from the LEAF School and other activities on my Facebook page. Posting photos to Facebook using iPhoto is a lot easier than the interface with Ning so I post more of my photos on Facebook than on here.

Brief History of Jetty Island

Posted on May 6, 2008 at 5:00pm 0 Comments

Students in the Summer 2008 LEAF School will have a chance to assist me with an ethnographic study of Jetty Island. This is an unusual project for a field school because anthropologists do not typically study people on an uninhabited island. Yet, the story of jetty is a compelling one in which humans play a vital role as the brief history outlined below demonstrates.…

LEAF School Spring Quarter, 2008

Posted on March 30, 2008 at 2:31pm 1 Comment

I am quite excited about the projects we have lined up for the LEAF School in spring quarter, 2008. Students participating in the LEAF School will enroll for 5 credits in Anthr 101, 102 or 103. We will meet on Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm (with a half-hour on either end for travel).

Our primary community partners for spring quarter will be Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force, United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, First Nations Student Association, Puget Soundkeepers… Continue

Hi Friends and Visitors!

I'm new to the Ning thing but thought I would try it out with my classes this quarter. I'm an anthropology instructor at the college and was looking for a way to connect students in several classes who are participating in our Eco Encore books and media drive.

The Ning network looked like a great opportunity for students from several different classes to join together in their efforts to generate books and media donations for Eco Encore. It is also… Continue

Not sure why people were having trouble joining groups the other day. They do have to join the network first and then the group. I do know Ning was making some changes to the group set up the other day. Maybe that affected it. Have them try again. Also there's basic Ning help here: http://help.ning.com/

Those of you working on your Eco Encore Service-Learning Project may benefit from a new online video released today. This video encapsulates the critical issues involved in our over consumption of stuff. In particular it focuses on the impact of our stuff economy on humans. I'd like to encourage you to select the link below, watch the 20 minute video, and then incorporate what you learn into your essay.

Welcome new members!

Edmonds CC Ning respectfully requests that we present our better nature to the online community and to each other — and may, in fact, insist on it!

The best stuff is yours! Student produced creative works: songs, videos, artwork, writing and pics get priority placement on the site. You're the star power here.

On the other hand: overly promotional material, advertising content, with no connection to our college community does not go here!
