TEDxRainier: Good ideas are meant to be shared.

I recently had the opportunity to go to a great conference in Seattle, TEDxRainier. Sharing ideas was the whole idea behind the conference — so I'm sharing some of them here! It was impressive how many of the speakers have been at Edmonds Community College at one time or another. The college has a great lecture series (free and open to the public). I've put asterisks beside the names of TEDxRainier presenters I… Continue

I recently gave a talk about my Peace Corps experience (Lesotho, Southern Africa 1995-1997) to the Stanwood-Camano Island Friends of the Library Association (my mother volunteers for the library and is president of the association). Because The Herald ran a rather large, vivid photo of me carrying a bucket of water on my head in the village where I lived some people… Continue

Peer-to-peer used textbooks and our Ning network news

We will be updating our social network http://edmondscc.ning.com this summer — removing the paid ads on the site, renaming the network, and dropping “ning” from the URL.

Questions for you:

• Should we keep the ability for users to add music and video to the site? Will you use these features?

• Any ideas for the new name when we drop “ning” from the URL?

The name should start with either edcc or edmondscc, for example:…

Welcome new members!

Edmonds CC Ning respectfully requests that we present our better nature to the online community and to each other — and may, in fact, insist on it!

The best stuff is yours! Student produced creative works: songs, videos, artwork, writing and pics get priority placement on the site. You're the star power here.

On the other hand: overly promotional material, advertising content, with no connection to our college community does not go here!
