Edmonds Community College

For friends of the college in Lynnwood, Washington: www.edcc.edu

Hi Friends and Visitors! I'm new to the Ning thing but thought I would try it out with my classes this quarter. I'm an anthropology instructor at the college and was looking for a way to connect students in several classes who are participating in our Eco Encore books and media drive. The Ning network looked like a great opportunity for students from several different classes to join together in their efforts to generate books and media donations for Eco Encore. It is also a place where we can coordinate plans to volunteer with the different recipient organizations participating in our Eco Encore project this quarter. This quarter I'm teaching a section of Anthr 101 Human Ecology and Anthr 110 Human Origins. Both classes are participating in the Eco Encore service-learning project. The students in the Human Ecology class have already had a chance to meet Mike Cooper from Transportation Choices Coalition, Chris Wilke from Puget Soundkeeper's Alliance and will be working closely with Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force later this quarter. The Human Ecology class is part of our Learn-and-serve Environmental Anthropology Field (LEAF) School. This is an opportunity to participate in an AmeriCorps program while earning college credit. Students work alongside me through structured service-learning projects in which we help governments, tribes and non-profits to help make fishing, farming and forestry more sustainable. We offer 5 credit options in Fall and Spring quarters and an intensive 15 credit program in the summer. We have a fun service project coming up at Gold Park for Make A Difference Day on October 27th. Visit the page below for more details. http://www.edcc.edu/servicelearning I hope to see some of you in the Ning groups for our Eco Encore partners and at some of our service projects. twm
