New avatar: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

My new orange avatar is the cover of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, it's the Edmonds CC Community Read selection for 2010-11.

The book tells the story of Kamkwamba, a young man from Malawi, who at age 14 battled through extreme poverty and hunger to build a series of
windmills from scratch to generate electricity — a luxury enjoyed by
only two percent of the population in Malawi. Watch an interview with the authors on ABC News.

Kamkwamba will be on campus April 11 in the Black Box Theatre.

There's a discussion group set up for the book at http://edmondscc.ning.com/group/wind.

Of course, I can't stop thinking about our own Edmonds CC Materials Science students' windmill projects.

Welcome new members!

Edmonds CC Ning respectfully requests that we present our better nature to the online community and to each other — and may, in fact, insist on it!

The best stuff is yours! Student produced creative works: songs, videos, artwork, writing and pics get priority placement on the site. You're the star power here.

On the other hand: overly promotional material, advertising content, with no connection to our college community does not go here!
